path from pain

It has been quite the week. Between the devastation in the Bahamas and many other losses, I have been deep in reflection about pain, peace and process.

And as is typical when life gets heavy and hard, deep, primordial wisdom and humor begin to flow. As I teeter on the brink of losing myself and being swept away by the current of seriousness and sorrow, a lightening flash of Cosmic Humor inevitably cuts through the darkness with such light that I can’t help but laugh at the inappropriateness of it all.

And in that moment, I know without question that I am supported and that all is as it should be.

As I sat at my altar space Saturday, deep in meditation, I was shown a joyful set of puns that while on the surface appeared blasphemous, once I looked deeper, I realized their perfect symmetry, beauty and wisdom.

Holey

The process of living creates many holes in us. We lose people, pets, jobs, homes, relationships, health, and more. Although we spend much of our lifetime striving to remain whole, we simply cannot avoid being shredded by life. The longer we live, the more like Swiss cheese we appear and we become holey, or filled with holes.

Wholly

When we are holey, and so much of what we have relied upon to fill us up, keep us happy and sustained is gone, we realize that it is only us, and that we are wholly responsible for our own joy, our own choices, actions and decisions. There is nothing outside of us that we can rely on. Everything is transitory. Nothing is forever. It always has been, and always will be only us.

And when we step into our whole self, and we fill our holes up with our whole self, and are wholly reliant on ourselves, we become Holy.

Holy

When our holes are wholly filled by ourselves we become sacred. Consecrated. Divine. The Alpha and the Omega. The All. One with Everything. Because whatever is taken from us we can always replenish. We are complete, and always will be. We lack for nothing because all we need is already within us.

And then, at the depth of my understanding, in my deepest moment of meditation and connection, where I was about to slip into Bliss because I understood it all, I heard…

“You get the joke with Jesus and the fact that nails create holes, don’t you? That was not a coincidence. That’s pretty funny, right?”

Jesus was Holy –> Wholly –> Holey.

We are Holey –> Wholly –> Holy.

Our paths may be reversed, be we converge WHOLLY in the middle with Source.
